The Craigslist add simply stated, “Selling my grandfather’s antique postcard collection, around 300.” I paid what to me was a small fortune for a shoe box filled with 300 pieces of old paper. That transaction took place in 2014 in a bowling alley parking lot in Austin, Texas, and from this – an interest and collection was born.

An old armoire in the den now houses 15,000 + postcards. In pursuit of these tiny bits of history I’ve perused estate sales, flea markets and garage sales on two continents….including a bowling alley parking lot.

Postcards are time-capsules. With a little bit of sleuthing, it’s amazing how much history can be deciphered from a piece of 3.5 x 5 parchment. I hope this collection continues to circulate the globe, as that was their original intention.
